M.E. Thompson, Inc. is expanding the recall of its Anytime Deli Turkey & Ham Footlong, to include Italian Footlong, and Classic Cuban, because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Maybe the meal-planner geniuses decided it would be OK to give sick old folks cold-cuts or deli meat to eat. That’s part of what happened in Canada in 2008 when 23 people – elderly with pre-existing medical conditions, many already in institutions -- died from listeria-laden Maple Leaf deli meats.

OTTAWA, April 13, 2012 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Les Aliments Deli Chef are warning the public not to consume certain "Super Loaded Sub" Deli Chef brand sandwiches because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
