PORTLAND, Maine -- An Augusta woman who says she contracted an E. Coli infection after eating meat produced by New York-based Fairbank Farms has filed a lawsuit against the company. Last month, Fairbank Farms of Ashville, N.Y., recalled almost 546,000 pounds of fresh ground beef that had been distributed in September to stores from North Carolina to Maine.
Private lab tests of ground beef recalled this week by a Fairbury packer came back negative for E. coli, contradicting an Agriculture Department test that caused the recall.
Exposure to animals at Denver's National Western Stock Show was the likely cause of an E. coli outbreak that occurred in the Denver area in January and February, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said today.
FAIRBURY, Neb. -- A Nebraska company says it has recovered the 90 pounds of ground beef listed in a federal recall report because of possible E. coli contamination. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says Fairbury Steaks is recalling 10-pound packages of bulk fresh ground beef.
The thick, black binder that Paula Gillett keeps charts her son Jack's battle last year against a food-borne illness caused by E. coli. Filled with medical records, meal calendars and other papers, the binder documents Jack's initial illness, the kidney failure that struck next and his eventual recovery.
Two further cases of E. coli have been confirmed in people who bought food from a bakery in Gateshead. So far nine adults have been confirmed as having the O157 strain of the infection, with a further six people currently undergoing tests. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said two people were receiving hospital treatment, with the remainder recovering at home.
