    Port Stephens Council says it is disappointed repeated food safety messages are not getting through, as more businesses are being fined for a range of offences. Three noodle outlets have been fined a total of $1,300 for offences ranging from a lack of cleanliness to evidence of cockroach activity. Over the past year six Port Stephens food outlets have been fined.

    CAIRO -- Two four-year-old Egyptian children have contracted the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus, raising to 76 the number of cases reported in Egypt, the state news agency MENA reported Tuesday. Egypt has been hit harder by bird flu than any other country outside Asia and has seen a surge of cases in recent weeks.

    Soil moisture is essential for seeds to germinate and for crops to grow. But record droughts and scorching temperatures in certain parts of the globe in recent years have caused soil to dry up, crippling crop production. The falling food supply in some regions has forced prices upward, pushing staple foods out of reach for millions of poor people.

    The Atlantic cod has, for many centuries, sustained major fisheries on both sides of the Atlantic. However, the North American fisheries have now largely collapsed.

    This is my fridge. This is my fridge on Salmonella and Campylobacter. This is how cross-contamination occurs. This is why it is important to lower pathogen loads before foods enter the home or a food service kitchen. Because foods can be a mess.

    The inspectors said the rooms were "unacceptably dirty" when they carried out spot checks across the university's colleges. At New College a mouse was found eating food from a wheelie bin and dirty work tops were identified. Rats were discovered scurrying around the rear yard outside kitchens at Mansfield and Pembroke Colleges.
