    The presence of Infectious Salmon Anaemia (ISA) has been confirmed on a fifth salmon farm within the existing ISA control zone in the South West of Shetland. The farm is close to the farms confirmed as being infected earlier in the year.

    Proposed statewide requirements to post calories on menus or menu boards, and to disclose other nutritional information, have advanced another step in the Oregon Legislature. House Bill 2726 cleared the Senate Health Care Committee on Tuesday and is headed to a vote of the full Senate. A negotiated version passed the House, 43-15, on May 15.

    An international team of scientists has cracked the problem of pod shatter in brassica crops such as oilseed rape. Just before harvest, oilseed rape pods are prone to shatter, causing a 10-25% loss of seeds and up to 70% in some cases.

    OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) are reminding Canadians that fresh fiddleheads should be properly cooked before being consumed.     The Oregon Department of Agriculture has fined five Malheur County onion growers for misusing pesticides not labeled for use on their crops. The civil fines, totaling $180,000, are connected with the application of Furadan and Basagran on 18 fields during the 2008 growing season.
