Wacky And Weird

Hanging out with veterinarians and vet students over the past 30 years, I’ve heard enough stories about the horse tranquillizer, ketamine, and human recreational use. Not the best thing to get addicted too, as far as addictions go, but is apparently popular at raves.

My parents thought pets in the suburbs was cruel, so I never had any – except for the turtle trauma. My ex-wife the veterinarian did a few cool things, in addition to the four daughters, and one was to surprise me with two kittens from the vet college at the University of Guelph. I named them Clark and Kent. I’ve hung out with dogs and cats ever since.

A member of staff at one of Britain’s top restaurants has been arrested after two chefs alleged they were assaulted while working in the kitchen. Maybe this is what it’s like working for Gordon Ramsey. One chef claimed he had his trousers set on fire with a blow torch and had red-hot pans pressed on his arms.

Consumers, when dining at a food establishment, or opening some food at home, and discovering a foreign object, or something gross, or a cockroach, do not turn the evidence over to the restaurant or the retailer. Call the local health unit. Otherwise, the proof may be gone (at least take a picture with your cell phone, but they can be photoshoped too easily).

I went to Naples, Italy once. For a weekend. One of the weirdest meetings I ever attended.

But it was free. And all we did was eat and drink. Sorta like that Sopranos episode where Tony and Pauley and Chrissy go to Naples for business connections and to tour the old world.

I always wondered about stupid shows like Fear Factor, where contestants are often forced to eat a variety f suspect foods – maybe the stuff is sterilized beforehand so the people don’t pick up parasites or other unfriendlies.

It's a tiny misprint, but an Australian publisher has had to destroy a cookbook after one recipe called for "salt and freshly ground black people" to be added to the dish.

Darwin is way up north in Australia, near the equator, so it’s hot most of the time. But that’s no excuse for fat German tourists in Speedos. Anywhere. Northern Territory News reports that of John Spellman's Tramontana restaurant on McMinn St. is now charging patrons $10 for wearing thongs while they dine.
