    UTICA -- Less than two years ago, James Loy reopened the steakhouse at 255-257 Genesee St. with plans of expanding and becoming one of the area’s top restaurants. But on Wednesday, state Department of Taxation and Finance agents padlocked the doors of Utica’s 257 Steakhouse because the business owes about $6,000 in sales tax.

    Byers Street Bistro Facility type: Full-service restaurant Inspection type: Routine Inspection date: Oct. 21 Critical violations: 2 Noncritical violations: 0 # There were two cans of artichokes and one can of grilled red peppers which had a dent in a seam but were being stored on the shelf along with cans intended for service to the public.

    All 26 food premises in the Taunton and Wellington given a hygiene inspection last month were judged good, very good or excellent. Half of them received the top five stars (excellent), eight had four stars (very good) and the other five won three stars (good). None received two stars (broadly compliant), one star (poor) or no stars (very poor).

    Four area businesses were listed on the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Web site as being in non-compliance and having other violations during its annual food safety inspection. Others have citations noted, but are categorized as in compliance.

    Famous Sam's, 3933 E. Pima St. Failed inspection Oct. 30. Passed follow-up inspection Nov. 9. Violations • The inspector saw the cook touch his nose and face twice. The cook then lifted a fryer basket out of some grease and picked up boxes. He didn't wash his hands after touching his nose and face. The violation was corrected by the cook's properly washing his hands.
