Shopping for food is competitive sport in Brisbane. There are bargains to be had, but limited by geography – I’m on a bicycle – time and seasonality. And the prices change almost daily for no apparent reason other than supply and demand.

The Board of the Food Standards Agency (FSA) will decide next week whether the FSA should review the current rules governing the sale and marketing of unpasteurised, or raw, drinking milk and cream. Proponents of raw milk must have felt a curdling in their stomachs after a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that the "rate for disease outbreaks caused by raw milk dairy products was 150 times higher than for pasteurized milk."

I believe House Study Bill 585 that would legalize the sale of unpasteurized milk to consumers is a bad idea. Eileen Dannemann (Feb. 24 letter) advocated the feeding of raw (unpasteurized) cow or goat milk to babies as the “perfect, substantially identical substitute breast milk.”
