    The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published its first Annual Report on Pesticide Residues, which provides an overview on the pesticide residues in food[1] observed throughout the European Union (EU) during 2007[2] and assesses the exposure of consumers through their diets.

    Tainted home-brewed liquor that poor workers living in slums drank over the weekend has left at least 43 dead in western India, police said on Wednesday. Another 23 were battling for their lives in three hospitals in Gujarat state's main city Ahmadabad, said SS Khandwawala, the director-general of state police.

    ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- An environmental group has given formal notice that it will sue the federal government to protect polar bears from pesticide pollution. The Center for Biological Diversity on Wednesday gave 60-day notice it will sue the Environmental Protection Agency for failing to consider the effects of pesticides on polar bears and their Arctic habitat.

    Laboratory studies suggest that it may be possible for insects to overcome two disparate toxins produced by genetically modified cotton. The results strike a cautionary note at a time when developers are racing to create crops that produce many different pesticides.

    The government has won its appeal against a High Court ruling that DEFRA had failed in its duty to protect rural residents during pesticide applications. The Court of Appeal decided in DEFRA's favour on Tuesday (7 July). It is a blow for anti-pesticide campaigner Georgina Downs, who had argued that DEFRA failed to abide by European pesticide rules.

    One of the reasons I don’t buy organic – besides being on a professor’s salary, which I have no complaints about but I’m certainly not going to waste it on organic – is that the so-called claims and rules are followed about as thoroughly as Peanut Corporation of America can pass an audit and end up having 4,000 products recalled because Salmonella makes people barf

     It may not always pay for ranchers to use herbicides to kill exotic invasive weeds such as leafy spurge, according to a 16-year study by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and colleagues.
    Rangeland ecologist Matt Rinella at the ARS Fort Keogh Livestock and Range Research Laboratory in Miles City, MT, and colleagues conducted the study.
