    NAINITAL -- Three brothers died and eleven family members were in critical condition allegedly due to food poisoning. Official sources said that the incident took place at Bhanura village, 80 km from Nainital on Tuesday night, when pesticide was mistakenly mixed while preparing the raita, that resulted in death of three brothers aged 35, 24 and 19 years.

    The multinational Bayer is expected to end global sales of endosulfan, replacing the toxic pesticide with safer alternatives.
    But the Federal Government's pesticides authority continued yesterday to maintain the chemical was safe for use on a wide range of crops.
    More than 60 countries have banned endosulfan.

    Why is the Bee Keepers' Association endorsing a pesticide that its members believe is responsible for the deaths of honeybees?
    Pesticides called neonicotinoids are widely implicated in the deaths of honeybees across the world. Their use has been restricted in France, Germany and Italy.

    Americans consume about 130 pounds of fresh and processed potatoes per capita annually, and in 2008 U.S. farmers harvested some 41.3 billion pounds of spuds on more than one million acres. So making even small changes in how potatoes are grown could yield big benefits for the environment.

    DALLAS -- People with Parkinson's disease have significantly higher blood levels of a particular pesticide than healthy people or those with Alzheimer's disease, researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have found.

    The death toll from a case of mass poisoning involving home-brewed alcohol at a party in the western Indian state of Gujarat has jumped to 86, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reports. Police in Ahmedabad, the state's largest city, told PTI on Thursday the number had risen by 61 from Wednesday's initial reported toll of 25. More than 100 others were being treated in hospital.
