    State health officials have ruled out a virus as the cause of an illness that sickened many people at an event last month at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control officials have refocused their testing on whether a bacteria may have played a role, said spokesman Thom Berry.

    MANGALORE -- Sixty-three students of the Government Muslims’ Residential School, Natekal, on the outskirts of the city, were taken to a private hospital at the nearby Deralakatte on Tuesday, after a few of them were taken ill owing to “suspected food poisoning”.

    OKLAHOMA CITY -- Health officials are blaming bacteria and parasites in the Oklahoma River for sickening dozens of international triathlon participants last month. The Oklahoma Department of Health said Wednesday that river contamination caused gastrointestinal problems for at least 45 participants in the Boathouse International Triathlon in Oklahoma City.

    MANGALORE -- A total of 76 children were hospitalized for suspected food poisoning today at Deralakatte Yenepoya hospital. They were taken ill after consuming breakfast at their hostel in the Government Muslim Residential School at Natekal near Deralakatte.

    Twenty-three Fairmont Chateau Whistler guests were quarantined in their rooms for most of Monday and part of Tuesday (June 1 and 2), suffering from Norwalk virus, a public health official said this week.

    At least 11 people have contracted a mystery illness after attending an event Thursday night for S.C. Congressman Henry Brown. The illness, which causes sudden stomach upset, is being tracked by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, but hasn't yet been linked to the Thursday event, said DHEC spokesman Tom Berry.

    A new self-service buffet is making a pig’s breakfast of infection control at Coventry’s University Hospital, angry staff claim. The help-yourself spread was unveiled at the hospital’s main restaurant last week and is open to workers, patients and visitors. Shocked hospital workers say they were only warned about the change days earlier when a sign went up.

    A Princess cruise ship traveling to Alaska reported a gastrointestinal illness outbreak on Sunday that sickened 108 of its 2,000 passengers and seven crew members. The ship, the Coral Princess, arrived in Whittier on Monday shortly after noon, state health officials said.

    RENTON, Wash. – More than 300 students and staff are home sick with flu-like symptoms this week from Lindbergh High School in Renton, said a letter to parents by the Renton school district. That means as much as a third of the student body, possibly more, have some down with the illness.

    A Grimsby couple say a cruise operator gave them a Golden Wedding to remember – after they claim they were 'abandoned' in a cheap hotel with a stomach bug. Colin, 73, and Margaret McPherson, 72, of Chester Grange, had hoped to finish off their celebrations – and a great holiday – in style.
