Hepatitis A is one of the few causes of foodborne illness that only cycles through humans – and their poop. So any outbreak of hepatitis A means human sewage came into contact with the food (which then wasn’t cooked) or someone shedding the virus had a poop, failed to adequately wash their hands, and then prepared an uncooked food.

ROCK ISLAND -- Three new lawsuits have been filed against the Milan McDonalds in connection with last summer's Hepatitis A outbreak. For the first time, the suits also name Trinity Health Systems and Metro Lab as ''respondents in discovery''. That means lawyers want to hear what the medical facilities knew and when, and could file suit at a later date.
