    When I think Best Western, I think free wi-fi. Maybe I should be thinking, cleaner rooms. There’s a certain snobbery about hotel rooms similar to restaurants: dives are dirty, fancy ones are clean.

    UAE residents have been told to wash away their dirty habits and stop the spread of disease. The message from health experts comes after a survey revealed that half of us claim to be too busy to wash our hands and one in four only scrub them when they look or feel dirty.

    There’s a reason silverware is often delivered on or in a napkin at a restaurant: to prevent contact with the gunk on the table. All proper-mannered people will unwrap the knife and fork and spoon and tuck the napkin into their shirt collar. Food comes on a plate. Silverware hits the table. What’s on the table?

    DUBAI -- Failure to keep food cool was the biggest cause of food poisoning last year, according to Dubai Municipality. It was closely followed by poisoning resulting from raw and cooked food being handled together.

It was the main theme at the Animal Agriculture Alliance Stakeholders Summit that I attended in Arlington, Va., earlier this month with representatives from the dairy, pork, beef and poultry industries.

    “Good Glen and the Bad Eggs” – an egg food safety app developed by the NSW Food Authority is raising awareness around the world about the safest eggs to eat. The NSW Food Authority worked with developer, Apparent to develop the app which aims to help children, as well as adults, learn about egg safety.

    A food safety trainer in New Brunswick says a new course that will certify employees who deal directly with food is extremely important. The New Brunswick government will require any restaurant employees who deal with food to be certified as of July 1.
