I do not like the actress Julia Roberts. Her movies suck, and she wasted a marriage to real talent, Lyle Lovett, back in the 1990s (but it did help Lyle create great art). Julia now says it was "torture" being covered in bird poo for her latest role in Mirror Mirror. “All that 'beauty' stuff was so disgusting.”

Political fodder is comedic gold. Satirists, like others, also eat. Jon Stewart loves cheeseburgers. The ingredients of public outrage over pink slime melded like a savory stew last night on the Daily Show to produce a potpourri of insights on how not to chat with people who eat. And it was so easy because the politicians and industry seem so hapless.

I’ve been around parents and little kids for 30 years and had endless discussions about home-birth, breastfeeding, nutrition, and the consistency of baby poop. Bird feeding hasn’t come up. But you may after watching this video.

An outbreak of illness might have more to do with the final results than the actual tennis at the BNP Paribas Open tournament in Indian Wells, California, which is about to move into its second week.

Michele Samarya-Timm, one of our Jersey food safety friends, writes about another side of Davy Jones, who passed away last night at the age of 66. I had just submitted my Master’s Degree thesis…A Study of Foodhandler Education Programs Offered by Local Health Departments in New Jersey. The paper was a long time coming, and I decided to celebrate at Walt Disney World.

TMZ reports Elton John had a crappy weekend after the Rocket Man came down with a nasty case of food poisoning. E.J. was supposed to perform at Caesars Palace in Vegas this past Friday and Saturday night, but the singer had to back out when something he ate backfired. No details on suspect food or drink or symptoms.

I don’t watch American Idol; I saw enough of Steven Tyler performing half-time at the Super Bowl. But I pay attention when my health-type friends tell me, the contestants on American Idol this week suffered from Idol Flu, with many gratuitous vomit shots, lots of hugging and no handwashing in sight.
