    Abstract:  Fresh eggshells collected from a local farm were subjected to different levels of surface contamination with feces containing different levels (3 to 5 log10) of Escherichia coli O157:H7 or Staphylococcus aureus and incubated at 3 different temperatures (10, 25, and 32 °C).

    Abstract:  The objective of our study was to determine effect of packaging method and storage time on reducing Listeria monocytogenes in shelf-stable meat snacks. Commercially available kippered beef steak strips and turkey tenders were dipped into a 5-strain L. monocytogenes cocktail, and dried at 23 °C until a water activity of 0.80 was achieved.

    Sprouts served on Jimmy John’s sandwiches supplied by a farm called Tiny Greens sickened 140 people with Salmonella, primarily in Indiana in late 2010. In Jan. 2011, Jimmy John’s owner Jimmy John Liautaud said his restaurants would replace alfalfa sprouts, effective immediately, with allegedly easier-to-clean clover sprouts.

    Once again, a seasoning has been fingered as the source of salmonella, although no one is sick this time (yet, or that is know) Jones’ Seasoning Blends LLC announced a voluntary recall of Jones’ Mock Salt Original as well as Jones’ Mock Salt Spicy Southwest Blend due to the potential contamination of Salmonella.

    Tainted powdered milk formula from Belgium has been recalled in Russia after more than a dozen babies were struck down with Salmonellosis. The Russian food safety authority, Rospotrebnadzor, has initiated a recall and officials in Belgium have completed an investigation at a Belgian processing plant after being notified of the outbreak.

    An E coli bacteria outbreak could be behind Yarra Ranges Council’s decision to close a water play park in Seville. Chair of the Seville Township Group Trilby-Roux Dewhurst said she was told by a Yarra Ranges spokesperson earlier this month that after several reports of gastroenteritis, the water had been tested at the water play park.
