    Continuing with all things melon, did Del Monte cantaloupes, imported from a farm in Guatemala, sicken at least 20 people in 10 states with Salmonella Panama beginning in Feb. 2011? Or was the link a result of zealous health types in Oregon and at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration?

    As a Canadian citizen with permanent U.S. residency living in Australia, I get confused. Even with a language professor by my side, I can barely understand a damn word anyone says – especially the Canadians.

Xinhua News Agency reports China's food safety watchdog plans to use cartoon faces -- smiling or unhappy -- to grade restaurants and delis based on the evaluation of their food safety conditions.

    LIMA, Peru -- Peru’s Health Ministry says food donated for a nutrition program became contaminated with pesticide in an Andean hamlet and poisoned 89 children and five adults. Three children have died. The ministry says the National Food Assistance Program distributed the food at a school in Redondo. The hamlet is 310 miles (500 kilometers) northwest of Lima.

    The National News Agency reported on Tuesday that a number of people suffered food poisoning in Kesrouan after eating Arabic sweets from one of the shops in the area. According to the report, the Ministry of Health will carry out tests on the sweets consumed by those poisoned.

    PARKER - The family of a woman who died from Listeria says they thought she had the flu at first before she began to get worse and died three weeks later. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment now confirms two people, including 48-year-old Shelly Occhipinti-Krout, have died from the Listeria outbreak in Colorado.

    A onetime city inspector who lives in Burr Ridge was supposed to make sure people in the Illinois food business knew the standards for handling food and keeping it clean. Instead, Maryanne Koll pocketed nearly $80,000 in bribes in exchange for handing out bogus certificates to at least 531 people who skipped classes or failed an exam, a federal judge has found.

    The always helpful Canadian Food Inspection Agency warned the public this morning not to eat cantaloupes sold from Food Basics, located at 2452 Sheppard Ave. E., North York (that’s near Toronto), Ontario on September 12, 2011 because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

    The source of the recent listeria outbreak was identified last week, but for Dr. Larry Goodridge, only the surface has been scratched when it comes to the questions that need to be answered. »If there had never before been a listeria outbreak traced back to cantaloupe, how did this recent outbreak occur?

    LUBBOCK, TX -- More than 2,500 people who may have been exposed to the hepatitis A virus were vaccinated this weekend, about half the number the Lubbock Health Department expected. The City of Lubbock agreed to reimburse University Medical Center $260,000 for the cost of the vaccine, but after this low turnout, the city has thousands of vaccines left over.
