    Hurricane Irene hit most of the east coast of the U.S. and Canada with high winds and rain Saturday and Sunday. Despite the Internet clamor of over-hyping the storm, hundreds of thousands of of folks lost power or experienced flooding. There have been multiple boil water advisories issued and reports of waste water system breaches.

    TIFTON, GA -- After Tifton residents contacted FOX 31 in regards to a Salmonella outbreak in Tifton, reporters went out to get answers.

According to Courtney Sheeley with the South Health District, there is not an outbreak in Tifton. There have been, however, ten cases of Salmonella in the last two months, but the cases are not linked.

The hot dogs concerned are ICA's 630 and 900 gram packages with the best-before dates September 14 and 16, and Euroshopper's 900 gram packages with the best-before date September 16.

    DEAR ABBY: I was at a party where guests were exposed to salmonella that was on one of the vegetables served as an appetizer. At least 11 people were affected by it. The hosts talked to only one or two of the people who were affected. Some of us were concerned that the hosts didn’t contact everyone and warn them of what had happened.

    Why are outbreaks of foodborne illness, like when 53 are killed and 4,400 sickened from eating sprouts produced in Germany from Egyptian seeds, referred to in media reports as ‘scares.’ This wasn’t a scare, it was a sprout shitstorm. Neither the first nor last.

    Fresh Del Monte is filing a second lawsuit against a government agency after the Food and Drug Administration banned its imports from a Guatemalan cantaloupe grower. Coral Gables, Fla.-based Del Monte Fresh Produce NA Inc. filed a notice to sue the Oregon Health Authority’s Public Health Division and one of the agency’s officials, according to an Aug. 29 news release.
