    A 30-year-old man and his three-year-old niece were diagnosed with salmonella on a family farm in Kildare last year, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre has revealed in a report. They both drank unpasteurised -- or raw -- milk produced by cows on the farm before contracting salmonella.

    French and Italian media are reporting that 46 young American students were hospitalized in Salerno, south of Naples, for food poisoning after eating pasta and meat. Young people and a teacher of 32 years, who had to travel in Greece, were hospitalized in various establishments in the vicinity of Salerno on Saturday night after complaining of fever, vomiting and diarrhea.

    Germany's disease control centre says 40 people have now died in the European E. coli outbreak, but the number of new cases being reported has remained at a low level for more than 10 days. The Robert Koch Institute said today that 3494 people in Germany have been reported ill, including 810 suffering from a serious complication that can lead to kidney failure.

    KUWAIT CITY -- The Kuwait International Airport has taken the necessary steps to prevent an outbreak of E. coli in the country, which include requiring passengers arriving from Spain and Germany to undergo medical tests to ensure they are not infected with the bacteria, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting acting Operations Department Manager at the airport Salem Al-Mansouri.

    SHARJAH -- The Sharjah Municipality took action including fine, warning and closure against 1,120 food outlets and companies for violations during the first quarter of the year.     When a salmonella outbreak sickened at least 79 people and killed two this past spring in Rhode Island, the state had only seven food safety inspectors. During the month it took health officials to track the outbreak to a small bakery in Johnston, Rhode Island, the state's other 8,000 licensed food establishments remained virtually uninspected.

    I do not like guacamole. It can be traced back to a hangover this girl had 25 years ago, and she threw up green chunky stuff. Sorenne had a cupcake with bright green icing yesterday and had a bright green poop this morning. In April 2011, at least 11 people became sick after eating at a local restaurant and doctors confirmed five were positive for E. coli O157:H7.

    LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- It's a Saturday afternoon, and 2 year old Kapio is all smiles. It's a different story from two weeks ago, when Kapio's parents rushed him to the hospital because he was vomiting nonstop. His parents didn't know it then, but Kapio had e-coli poisoning. The city of Everett says it's likely he and three others caught it at the city's Animal Farm.

    A Midland family have told of their nightmare holiday at Butlins when they – along with 200 other guests – were struck down by the norovirus bug. Robert Adams, 64, and wife Geraldine, 63, were on holiday with their disabled daughter Lindy when they were hit by the sickness and diarrhoea bug last Saturday night.
