    Daniel Squadron, the the New York State senator for the 25th District, and Brian Kavanagh, the New York State Assembly member for the 74th District, write regarding “We Are What We Eat” (editorial, Sept. 22) to say sthe routine, nontherapeutic use of antibiotics in animals we eat poses unacceptable risks to public health and must be banned.

    SWISS food and drinks giant Nestle SA says it plans to invest hundreds of millions of dollars to expand its medicinal nutrition business over the next decade. Nestle says it is creating a specialised institute in Switzerland and a subsidiary called Nestle Health Science SA "to pioneer a new industry between food and pharma''.

    A woman from York has died from food poisoning after doctors battled in vain to save her life. Retired bank clerk Lynn Welsh, 57, fell ill with sickness and diarrhea over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Her husband Mike said today they thought at first it was just a run-of-the-mill stomach upset and waited for it to run its course.

    There’s some shady going-ons involving11 tons of listeria and salmonella-contaminated hamburger meat in Turkey. Today’s Zaman has been reporting the meat scandal broke after a company, Fasdat Gıda, responsible for distributing meat to fast-food giant Burger King, cancelled its contract with a producer called TT Gıda – on grounds that the meat was contaminated.

    MARYSVILLE, Ohio -- An Ohio dairy farm worker accused of beating cows while unwittingly being filmed has pleaded guilty to six counts of animal cruelty. A court clerk says 25-year-old Billy Joe Gregg Jr. was sentenced Friday in Marysville on the misdemeanors to eight months in jail. That was cut to four months because of time already served.

    WASHINGTON -- Mekong Fresh Meats, a Mosinee, Wis., establishment, is recalling  approximately 29,893 pounds of cured uncooked pork ginger sausages because they contain an undeclared allergen, wheat, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. Wheat is a known allergen, which is not declared on the label.

    A West Australian egg company that for more than four years allegedly falsely advertised their eggs as free-range will face charges in the Perth Federal Court. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has begun proceedings against the company C I & Co and its owners Antonio and Anna Pisano for allegedly contravening the Trade Practices Act.
