    Pets might like it, but among most consumers, "spent-hen" meat isn't very popular. It's tough, stringy and far less appealing than the more tender meat of broiler chickens.     BEIJING -- A panel of 42 experts in the fields of hygiene, agriculture, food and nutrition was set up Tuesday by the Chinese government to conduct risk assessment on food safety.     The FDA wants to remind consumers that all amphibians (frogs, salamanders, newts) and reptiles (turtles, lizards, snakes) are recognized as a source of human Salmonella infections. Most persons infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12–72 hours after infection.
