    OLYMPIA -- Three recent E. coli infections in Washington have been linked to drinking raw, unpasteurized milk. As a result, the Washington state departments of Health and Agriculture are reminding consumers of the potential health hazards of these products.

    Chapman wasn’t feeling particularly hysterical as he kept crapping himself while he was in Manhattan (Kansas) a couple of weeks ago and was then confirmed to be suffering from campylobacter.

    Just another day at work doesn’t usually involve a visit from the FDA. Earlier this fall, members of a Food and Drug Administration and U.S. Department of Agriculture safety team visited Florida tomato packing operations to see how grower-shippers were dealing with food safety regulations.

    LUBBOCK, Texas -- "The Fabric of Our Lives" may soon feed millions. A Texas researcher has found a way to reduce toxin in cottonseed that until now could only be eaten by cattle. The bovines' multiple stomachs gradually digested the poisonous substance called gossypol.

    An article in an upcoming edition of Transplant Infectious Disease (Gisel et al) describes a case of Bordetella bronchiseptica pneumonia in a person who had received a kidney and pancreas transplant. This person had to board her dogs at a veterinary clinic while she was hospitalized for a bowel obstruction that occurred after surgery.

    Analyses carried out by the Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira and the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) have confirmed pandemic (H1N1) influenza virus in samples taken from the porcine respiratory tracts. This is the first case in Finland where the human pandemic influenza virus has been proven to have been transmitted to pigs.
