    It was a year ago on August 23, 2008 that some of our products were linked to the death of 22 Canadians and made many others very ill. This tragedy was a turning point in our history. It’s very important that we always remember the impact of what happened on the people affected and their families and friends, and what that meant for us as the company responsible.

    A dream cruise around the Baltic Sea ended in tragedy when a “happy-go-lucky” Malvern pensioner became violently ill and later died. Mary Smith, aged 67, from Orford Way, was enjoying the holiday with her husband Tony, 71. He said she was diagnosed by the onboard doctor with having the norovirus which left her confined to her cabin.

    Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health have received a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to educate AIDS patients on food safety. The three-year, $600,000 award will be used to develop a better way to disseminate information to AIDS patients who are at high risk of developing infections from the foods they eat.

    The first hard evidence of what is happening physiologically inside bees during Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) has been published in a new study by Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and University of Illinois scientists in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The study also looked at differences in activity levels of critical genes in CCD and healthy bee colonies.
