    There is a new flu virus going around. It initially looked quite lethal, and caused panic. Now it is clear that it has killed relatively few victims — and many of those have underlying conditions. It is particularly dangerous to be the possessor of a pushed-in nose — that is, to be a Pekingese, a pug or a Shi-Tzu.

    A worker at a West Virginia turkey plant has been sentenced to a year of home confinement for stomping on a bird's head and slamming another to the ground in abuse caught on video. Edward Eric Gwinn was also fined $1,000 and ordered to have no contact with domestic animals by a judge in Greenbrier County.

    European food regulators issued a favorable scientific opinion on Monsanto Co.’s Roundup Ready 2 corn product for cultivation and reaffirmed the safety of its insect-protected corn trait. In its opinion, the European Food Safety Authority confirmed that the biotech giant’s YieldGard Insect-Protected Corn is safe for cultivation, animal feed and human consumption.
