FRANKLIN COUNTY -- Many people are going green in what they eat buying more organic foods. A farmer in Thompsonville is trying to meet that need.
Farmer's call it the circle of life, take it from the field feed it to the cows use what's left and lay it down as fertilizer. Then grow your crop. There's nothing new about it. Ernie Duckworth of Jed's Farm says, "When you take animal waste, manure and apply it to your farms or fields, that's been around for hundreds of years so its not new technology. Its a good fresh produce, there's less chemicals to the product."
Duckworth grows vegetables and strawberries on his small farm and its his compost that he says saves money, is resourceful, and helps him grow an abundant crop, "We us our animal manure, we collect horse manure from local farmers, we collect leaves in the fall and also wood chips and dump them and we mix that all up together."
