If you're planning to go out to eat today, you may want to visit the Salt Lake Valley Health Department's new Web site on restaurant inspections. It contains details of the county's most recent inspection reports and enables users to compare three establishments to see which has the best compliance rating.
The Web site, found under the Restaurant Inspection tab at www.slvhealth.org, is so popular that some 68,000 users visited it within an hour of its launch last week, temporarily crashing the system. This is indicative of two things: First, there is tremendous public demand for this information. Second, the health department needs to ensure its computer servers can handle the traffic this Web site is bound to receive.
