SAUDI ARABIA: Food poisoning in Makkah, restaurant shut

MAKKAH -- Makkah Municipality closed a well-known international fast food chain in the city center after four people suffered from food poisoning. The municipality’s placed a sticker on the façade of the restaurant indicating that it has been closed due to food poisoning.
In a statement to Saudi Gazette, Abdullah Al-Zaidi, Deputy Head of the municipality’s Ajyad Branch, said a committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Health, Department of Environmental Health and a health supervisor from the municipality took several food samples from the restaurant and confirmed that they contained microbes that sent four people to the hospital.
Al-Zaidi said that according to a decision by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, the restaurant will remain shut for a month and be fined SR4,000.
