SHARJAH -- The Sharjah City Municipality (SM) after the successful launch of food safety programme in nine schools has now extended it to 30 other school canteens in the emirate and aims to train school children as “small inspectors” to train other students and assist municipal food inspectors.
These small inspectors will be nominated by schools to get necessary training to be able to carry out inspection of canteens of schools and assist inspectors of the municipality to keep the cafeteria under control.
The healthy food programme will cover all food outlets, eateries and food processing factories in near future.
The municipality’s food safety department officials have already met directors and representatives of 30 public schools in Sharjah aiming to inform public schools on the programme, said Dr Rasha Ahmed Al Qassimi, assistant director general for Environment, Health and Quality of the municipality.
