BEIJING -- China's food and drug safety watchdog issued a circular Thursday urging enhanced food safety within chain restaurants.
Chain restaurant businesses have grown rapidly in recent years. The chains' operation mode of scale management, standardization and specialization has significantly raised China's level of food safety, said the circular issued by the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA).
However, some chain restaurants' illegal and trust-breaking operations have tarnished the positive image of restaurant chain enterprises and have also harmed the interests of consumers, it said.
The circular urged the headquarters of all restaurant chain enterprises to enhance the construction of a sound food safety system, as well as improve the management of their material procurement, food processing and staff training.
