GUWAHATI -- Three children, identified as Kulsum Khatun (15), Taznur Rahman (4) and Bibi Begum (3), died while eight others of a family fell ill due to food poisoning at Fakirganj, Dhubri district in lower Assam.
The family had gone for a dinner party and consumed hilsa fish last night. Eight members of the family fell ill and were rushed to the local public health centre (PHC) at Fakiraganj.
"The eight members were admitted to Goalpara Civil Hospital. Two among the sick are critically ill," sources said.
Relatives and locals alleged that the police and other concerned officials delayed in responding to the incident and an irate mob set ablaze an ambulance and six motor cycles parked in the compound of the police station this morning.
