MALAYSIA: Half of food poisoning cases involve school canteens – Liow

PUTRAJAYA -- A total of 311 food poisoning cases were reported last year of which 157 or about 50 per cent involved school canteens, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said.
He said the 311 cases was an increase of 29 cases from the previous year and mostly due to contamination of food during preparation, transportation or serving.
"Nasi lemak contributed 10 per cent of the food poisoning incidents apart from cockl sambal and 'ayam masak merah' (chicken in red chilli sauce)," he told reporters here.
Liow said the ministry viewed the matter seriously because it could affect the student's health and their studies.
The ministry, he said, also urged canteen
