TEXAS: Midland Health Department alerts citizens of Shigella

The Midland Health Department reported Thursday it's observed a higher-than-usual incidence of Shigella diarrhea in Midland since late August.
The bacterial infection invades the gastrointestinal tract producing watery and sometimes bloody diarrhea accompanied by abdominal cramping. It's been observed in greater numbers since August and local medical providers were alerted in October, according to a release from the city of Midland.
