JEFFERSON -- The Jefferson County Health Department is looking into what it calls an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness which has caused 34 people to get sick in recent days.

Health officials blame norovirus, referred to as "stomach flu," as the cause of the foodborne illness.
Officials say symptoms can include vomiting, watery diarrhea, headache, nausea and abdominal cramps, but norovirus is normally not life-threatening.
The health department there suggests people should frequently wash their hands.
