Pontypool couple Scott and Leanne Bessant hold the baby son they feared they would never have after salmonella put their IVF plans on hold.
They describe Cailan as a 'miracle' because after four years of trying, two of which were spent on an IVF waiting list, Mrs Bessant fell pregnant naturally and gave birth at the end of September.
The couple were due to start IVF treatment in January, but last November they contracted salmonella while on holiday in the Maldives and were told by doctors they could not enter a hospital until the bug had left their systems, which can take up to a year.
The couple have yet to fully recover from the bug they claim they contracted at the Summer Island Village resort and are trying to sue holiday firm Cosmos for alleged negligence and misrepresentation, a breach of contract and personal injury. Cosmos has refused to comment.
Mr Bessant, 26, had been hoping to sign a professional contract with rugby league side the Celtic Crusaders, but lost over two stone through the illness and has yet to get back to his full strength.
He is currently playing full-back for Newport Titans and hopes another chance to turn professional arises in the future.
