Food scares leading to product recalls have stabilised in Australia, according to the latest official figures.
There were 54 recalls in 2008-09 according to the latest Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) report, released today.
It was the third consecutive year of recalls in the 50s, after declining from 77 in 2003-04.
The recalls included 16 cases of "labelling errors" due mostly to undeclared allergens, 13 cases of finding a "foreign material" like glass in foods, and 21 cases of "micro-contamination" - mostly cases of listeria.
