FAYETTEVILLE -- Antibacterial hand wash dispensers installed in every Fayetteville classroom is one precautionary step the school district is using the help prevent the spread of influenza this year.
Superintendent Vicki Thomas outlined other measures the school district is doing to deal with flu issues in the schools in a letter mailed to all parents in the district.
The dispensers were donated by Washington Regional Medical Center and the efforts of board member Steve Percival who is employed by the hospital, Thomas said.
She read the letter at Thursday's school board meeting.
"Extra precautions are being taken throughout the school district to ensure cleanliness," she said.
Custodians are wiping door handles, hand rails and desks in every building during the day and after hours with sanitizers to minimize the spread of germs.
Restrooms are being cleaned and disinfected regularly.
The letter deals mainly with the outbreak of swine flu or H1N1 influenza but also applies to other students who exhibit flu-like systems.
No H1N1 cases have been reported in Fayetteville schools.
